  • Intro:

Deportivo Toluca beat visitors Monterrey 2-0 on Sunday, but failed to reclaim first place in the MX Liga Torneo Clausura standings from Cruz Azul.

    Script:

Deportivo Toluca were looking to win by three clear goals and move back above Cruz Azul at the top of the MX Liga standings when they hosted Monterrey on Sunday.

And they got off to a flyer in the third minute of the game.

Antonio Naelson's corner kick was helped back into the danger area by headers from Edgar Benitez and Aaron Galindo before Paulo da Silva put the ball away.

Isaac Brizuela went close to doubling the lead seven minutes into the second half when his half-volley - from a Pablo Velazquez return pass - hit the crossbar.

Orozco's opposite number - Toluca 'keeper Alfredo Talavera - had a quiet day, although he had to be alert to stop Lucas Silva's effort after some tidy build up play.

Toluca put the result beyond doubt with nine minutes left of normal time.

Brizuela found space on the right wing and crossed to Jesus Zavala, who stylishly put the game to bed.

And it should have been the perfect 3-0 scoreline that Toluca desired but for a brilliant reaction save from Orozco to deny the home side.

2-0 to Toluca who and are again level on points with Cruz Azul at the top of the Mexican league.
