Martinez 'terribly sad' following Oviedo injury

Monday, January 27 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Roberto Martinez on the injury to Costa Rican international Bryan Oviedo, who broke his leg in two places during Everton's 4-0 win over Stevenage in the FA Cup on Saturday.

    Script:

"Yes, the injury to Bryan, yeah... it was a very unfortunate action, nothing malicious, Bryan is trying to win the ball back and unfortunately, I think he's picked up a double, a double fracture. Obviously a broken leg, the tibia and fibula. We're going to assess now, what's the next step for Bryan but obviously it's one of those moments that you don't get many, thankfully, in football games, but it really gives you a bad taste and I thought the players had to refocus because there's not a nicer human being than Bryan and he's an incredible professional and when that happens, it really gives you a bad feeling, but what I'm pleased about is if you are going to pick up an injury, at least this season has been Bryan Oviedo's season. I think he's shown his level, he's shown the quality that he has, the footballer that he can be and it's one of those moments when you feel terribly sad for him, because it was a great moment in his career, with a World Cup around the corner, but all we want now is for Bryan to get fully recovered as quick as we can and make sure he comes back as important as he's been for this squad."
