Panathinaikos hosted relegation battlers Platanias looking to extend their winning streak to four games.

It looked like the first half would end in a stalemate but Mehdi Abeid gave the home team the lead.

A Viktor Klonaridis low cross was deflected into the path of Abeid who was able to sneak it in at the near post.

In a match short of goal mouth incidents, fans had to wait until the 82nd minute before either goalkeeper was tested again.

Abeid again with the chance to score his and Panathinaikos's second goal of the night, but the Algerian's dinked shot bounced just wide.

Panagiotis Vlachodimos was then sent off for the visitors after playing on despite being flagged offside and was shown a second yellow card for doing so to end his match early.

Abeid would fail to convert one more chance in the 84th minute as Panathinaikos defeated Platanias for the first time in four attempts - and close in on third-placed Atromitos who had won earlier in the day.
