Melbourne Heart drew 2-all with Adelaide United in the Australian A-League.

It was Melbourne's first match since their takeover by Manchester City.

    Script:

Harry Kewell led the march out for the Melbourne Heart as they travelled to Adelaide United for the Australian A-League club's first match since being bought by England's Manchester City.

The change in ownership didn't bring a quick change in fortune for the struggling club as Adelaide took an early lead when Bruce Djite hit a shot that rebounded off the hands of Melbourne goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne to make it 1-0 to the Reds in the 22nd minute.

But Melbourne got a break in the 61st minute when Mate Dugandzic was fouled in penalty area.

Harry Kewell then converted the penalty for the equaliser as Heart levelled the match at 1-all.

Then in the 79th minute, Heart's Iain Ramsay lofted a free-kick into the box where Patrick Kisnorbo headsed it home to give Melbourne a 2-1 lead.

But just when it appeared Heart were set to hand their new owners a rare victory, Adelaide's Ryan Griffiths volleyed home a corner kick in the 90th minute to level the match again.

That's how it ended with the late equaliser denying the bottom-placed club a winning start to their new partnership with Manchester City.

The draw moves in-form Adelaide into fifth place on 21 points, while Heart remain last after earning just their ninth point of the year.

Heart goalscorer Patrick Kisnorbo said afterward that he hoped for better days now the long-rumoured sale to Manchester City had finally been completed:

"Nothing we can really do. We always just have to play our best football on the pitch and whatever happens behind the scenes happens. But it's great, I think, for the club and for Australian football in general."
