France's two most recent league champions, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Montpellier, met in the French Cup on Wednesday evening.

Laurent Blanc's decision not to start with regulars Zlatan Ibrahimovic, midfielder Thiago Motta and goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu backfired as Montpellier took an early lead.

Daniel Congre headed home past the on rushing back-up goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez in the 20th minute.

PSG levelled matters ten minutes later and their treble hopes for the season were back alive. Lucas Digne's cross was turned in by Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani to make it one a piece.

It was his 20th goal of the season, but only moments later he failed to put PSG ahead, missing an open goal.

The introduction of Ibrahimovic and Motta in the 66th minute made little difference as just 3 minutes later Montpellier were back in front.

Slack marking allowed Colombian forward Victor Hugo Montano to head home a 69th-minute winner for a team languishing in 16th place in Ligue 1.
