  • Intro:

Reaction from Roger Cukierman, president of Crif, the Representative Council of French Jewish Institution after West Bromwich Albion striker Nicolas Anelka was charged by the English FA for his "quenelle" gesture.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Roger Cukierman, president of Crif, the Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions:

"Well I believe that it's a bit exaggerated to charge him because I believe that when the gesture is done in a plain soccer field, it's not at all as if it was made in front of a Synagogue or in front of a memorial concerning the Holocaust. It cannot be interpreted clearly as an anti-Semitic gesture because it's done in a soccer field and it can be only interpreted as a gesture against the establishment."
