Lowly Panionios have beaten PAOK 2-0 in the Greek Superleague.

The goals for the home side came in either half.

Konstantinos Panagopoulos's side Panionios hosted visitors PAOK at the Stadio Neas Smirnis.

PAOK are just one below Olympiakos who top the league, but the home side weren't fazed by their pedigree.

Far from it. They scored in the 6th minute from an Andreas Lasnik free kick. Hristos Aravidis slotted the ball home to make it 1-0 to Panionios.

Six minutes later PAOK almost equalised. Stelios Kitsiou found space on the right wing. Konstantinos Katsouranis took his pass and floated a lovely ball into the area.

Stefanos Athanasiadis's superb bicycle kick was denied by an equally excellent save from Panionios keeper Giannis Anestis.

Then in the 21st minute Dimitris Kolovos made a wonderful break in midfield, weaving past the PAOK defence as he struck just outside the area, forcing Panagiotis Glykos to pull off a fine save.

The score remained 1-0 to Panionios as the teams went into the break.

The second half didn't have the thrills and spills of the first but the goal, when it came, was worth waiting for.

In the 61st minute Lasnik stepped up to take a free kick. With his sweep of blond hair he even looked like the David Beckham of old and he certainly bent the ball like Beckham.

It was a superb effort and Glykos could only tumble into the back of the net.

The score remained 2-0 to Panionios at the final whistle. The result means that PAOK are in second place with 45 points, while Panionios are in 9th place on 24 points.
