Stuart Lancaster: 'there's everything to play for'

  • Intro:

Harlequins lock George Robson was appointed captain of a completely changed England team on Monday for the midweek match against South Africa's Southern Barbarians.

The uncapped Robson takes over from club teammate and test skipper Chris Robshaw as part of the wholesale changes made for the game in Kimberley following the defeat in the first test against the Springboks on Saturday.

Lancaster also picked Danny Care at scrumhalf, giving the Harlequins No. 9 a chance to prove himself again after he was dropped for the Six Nations because of a failed drink-driving test.

SOUNDBITE (English) Stuart Lancaster, head coach of the England rugby squad:
"When you look at the side, it's a pretty experience side, in terms of Premiership experience, a lot of the guys have played quite a lot of Premiership games and in certain positions, particularly nine and ten, Danny and Charlie, quite a lot of international experience as well, so, you know, we're looking forward to seeing how they all go."

SOUNDBITE (English) Stuart Lancaster, head coach of the England rugby squad:
"We're close to being final for Saturday, but there is definitely one or two players that we are looking at with a view to potentially coming in, more likely off the bench, rather than starting, but equally we've got a third test and we've got another game as well, so for the players, there's everything to play for, for all the players."

SOUNDBITE (English) Stuart Lancaster, head coach of the England rugby squad:
"Obviously everyone is disappointed when you loose players. Mike Brown and Brad played key roles in the game and worked hard to get their places in the team. And Mike, particularly, worked hard to get a starting slot, so he's really disappointed in having to go home, but players always look forward and they are quite resilient, so Mike will go and Nick Abendanon will get his opportunity. So, no, it doesn't effect morale in that sense, I think everyone knows it's part of the game."
