Colchester boss John McGreal has no fresh injury worries for the Sky Bet League Two match against Port Vale.
Wing-back Kane Vincent-Young signed a new contract on Monday, and will come into the squad.
Goalkeeper Dillon Barnes, 22, looks set to make only his second home league appearance after impressing in the goalless draw against Notts County on the opening day.
Striker Luke Norris, a summer signing from Swindon, has been carrying a groin problem, so continues to receive intensive treatment.
Port Vale must again do without defender Antony Kay, who is suspended.
Veteran Kay was shown a red card against Carlisle towards the end of last season, so his three-match ban was carried over into the new campaign.
Forward Ricky Miller scored on his debut in the 3-0 win over Cambridge on the opening day, so should retain his place in attack.
Defender Joe Davis and forward Tyrone Barnett could both yet move on loan in a bid to get more regular first-team football.
