Kevin De Bruyne signs a new 5-year deal with Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has signed a new five-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2023.

The Belgian has been in sensational form this season and has been a key part to the side's quest for Premier League glory.

De Bruyne has scored six goals and made 10 assists so far in the league this season and looks an early favourite to win the Premier League Player of the Year award, to add to the almost-inevitable league title.

Speak to Manchester City's official website on his new deal, De Bruyne said: "I am really happy to have signed this new deal.

"As I've said previously, my intention has always been to stay here at City, where I've felt at home from day one.

"Not only are we winning – we are playing great football. It's a pleasure to be a part of and I'm really excited about what we can achieve in the coming years," added the Belgian.

"I feel very good here, I was very happy with the way everything went when I came here.

"I have had two-and-a-half good years and I wanted to stay here when the club talked to me about renewing my contract to stay longer, we were open for it directly and for me it's the best decision to stay here.

"It was pretty easy [signing a new contract]. You hear a lot of people talk about other clubs, but I think we are at the moment one of the best clubs in the world.

"The way this club is working as a whole unit is unbelievable, I've never witnessed it before in other clubs before like that," said the former Chelsea and Wolfsburg player.

"The project is very good with a lot of young players coming through so I am happy to also build with this team," he continued.

"I feel very honoured and blessed that I can go on for the next five and a half years here. I think from the moment I came here I got a lot of support.

"I know a lot of times they sing that song in the games and I feel really appreciated, so hopefully we can have some good times in the next five and a half years."

City are currently 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League table after 24 games, having lost just one game.

And their Director of Football Txiki Begiristain believes the Belgian has been vital in that run.

"Kevin's new deal is great news for our club," he told City's website.

"He has shown this season how important he is to the team and has been integral in everything we've done so far.

"We are thrilled he has committed his long-term future to Manchester City."

The 26-year-old signed for City from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg and has made 122 appearances across all competitions, winning the 2016 League Cup.

'Great evening for the Blues' – Manchester City fans react to De Bruyne's new contract

With many fans waiting on the news of Alexis Sanchez signing for Manchester United, City's deal for De Bruyne went slightly under the radar.

But that did not stop City fans rejoicing at the announcement.
