Herrera and Mata will both be out of contract next June but United do have the option to extend their terms by a further year.

ESPN claim that sources close to United have told them that Jose Mourinho wants to negotiate longer terms with both midfield stars.

And the Red Devils are confident Herrera and Mata will put pen to paper on hefty new contracts soon.

Both players impressed under Mourinho last season and will likely be key parts of the Special One's plans in the new campaign.

United have splashed out upwards of £150m on new signings and Mourinho is still looking to bolster his ranks further.

But Herrera and Mata are likely to remain as prominent figures in United's first-team next term.

The midfield pair will be playing alongside Nemanja Matic in the upcoming season following the Serbian's £40m move from Chelsea.

The Red Devils confirmed yesterday that Matic has signed a three-year contract at Old Trafford.
