Buffon: I’ll give it one final go next season

Buffon has played in three Champions League finals for the Bianconeri, and has been on the losing side on all three occasions, something he wants to rectify before he hangs up his gloves, which is expected to be next season, when he will be 40 years old.

"I still have one more year on my contract, so that means I have one more chance of winning the Champions League," he told Sky Sports Italia after their 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid in Saturday's final.

A brace by Cristiano Ronaldo, and strikes from Casemiro and Marco Asensio ensured that the Old Lady would once again be the bridesmaids in a season where they swept all domestic honours on offer.

"It will be tough to do better than this year, because we could have done something truly incredible this season," said Buffon, regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers in the history of the game.

"Unfortunately, we didn't manage it."

So far, the only European title the player has won was the UEFA Cup - now Europa League - back in 1999 when he was still playing for Parma. Since then, he has played - and lost - in three finals against AC Milan (in 2003), Barcelona (2015), and Madrid.

Juventus last won the Champions League in 1995/96, the season he made his debut for Parma at the age of 17, five years before he signed for the Turin giants.
