Getafe vs Sporting de Gijon - Defeat not an option for Juan Esnaider

Getafe manager Juan Esnaider is contemplating nothing but victory ahead of his side's crucial clash with fellow Primera Division strugglers Sporting Gijon.

Esnaider's second-bottom team are locked on 35 points with 17th-placed Gijon with two games to play.

Defeat for either side on Sunday would edge them closer to joining relegated Levante in the Segunda Division next season.

Esnaider, as reported by Marca, said: "We're fine, it's perhaps been a long week. We have to face another crucial game for us.

"The game involves the same difficulty and is very similar to the experience of the last three weeks. We know the importance.

"I particularly love these games, they are what makes football so beautiful.

"I do not think about a draw, we have prepared everything to win the game.

"Ideally we will be able to handle the anxiety and nerves."

Argentinian Esnaider, a former Getafe assistant manager, replaced Fran Escriba as head coach at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez last month for the final six games of the season.

Getafe are unbeaten in the last three following a winless run of 13 which resulted in the departure of Escriba.

According to reports club president Angel Torres has said Esnaider will stay in charge should he manage to steer them to safety.

Gijon have also found a little bit of form to remain in with a chance of staying up having picked up 11 points from the last 21 available.

Coach Abelardo has urged his players to be fearless when they travel south to the outskirts of Madrid.

"With two rounds remaining this team is alive," he said, according to Marca.

"It is a pretty nice game to play, with a lot of pressure.

"It is a final away from home, if you get nervous the world cracks.

"If we are successful in defending there will be many chances to win.

"It will not be an easy game, Getafe is in a good moment.

"It is a shame that the season will not last another 10 games because this team is clearly going to do more.

"I feel privileged to occupy the bench, if last season was a very nice challenge, this challenge is even more beautiful."

Both sides will be hoping that Rayo Vallecano and Granada drop points during Sunday's fixtures.

17th-placed Vallecano, who play at Real Sociedad, also have 35 points, while Granada, a point further ahead in 16th position, travel to Sevilla.
