Sunderland vs Chelsea FC - Didier Ndong suspended as Sunderland host Chelsea

Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong will miss Wednesday night's Barclays Premier League clash with Chelsea through suspension.

The Gabon international collected his fifth booking of the season at Swansea on Saturday and will sit out as the leaders make the trip to Wearside.

Manager David Moyes was coy about the injury situation ahead of the game, declining to name a couple of players who are concerns, but Duncan Watmore (cruciate ligament), Lee Cattermole (hip), Jack Rodwell (hamstring) and Paddy McNair (knee) are all still sidelined, so George Honeyman, Joel Asoro and Josh Maja are likely to be included in the squad.

Moyes knows his defence will have to tame in-form striker Diego Costa.

The Scot said: "He has become a bit of an old-fashioned centre-forward. He always had that, but I think he has now become one of the old types in this country.

"He can score technically, can out-run you and probably out-jump you as well."

Chelsea have no fresh injury concerns as they go in search of a 10th straight Premier League win.

Manager Antonio Conte is still without captain John Terry (gluteal strain), but other than that the Italian has a full squad to select from.

Terry will still travel with the squad as his wide-reaching role within the group continues.

"I'm pleased a lot to know, also, the man and not only the player," Conte said.

"I think, I repeat, he's a really important player for us. If he plays or if he doesn't play, he remains our captain.

"It's important for him to send out the right message in the changing room, to send the right spirit of this club. For me, I hope to have him available to play, but also in this moment it's important to have him in this role.

"He's injured, but he's helping us in these games, in every game... He comes with us, home and away, staying with us, transferring the right message. It's very positive, very positive."
