Shrewsbury vs Carlisle preview - Shrews sweat on Gayle and Robinson

Shrewsbury could be without Cameron Gayle and Andy Robinson for the visit of Carlisle.

Defender Gayle is struggling with an ankle problem while midfielder Robinson has a quad injury but neither are expected to be long-term doubts.

The 1-0 defeat to Stevenage at the weekend was the third loss in a row for Micky Mellon's side, having been unbeaten in their first seven of the season.

Mellon will hope to see his strikers end their barren spell in front of goal, with Shrews having failed to score in their last three outings.

Striker Billy Paynter is still struggling with a hamstring injury for managerless Carlisle.

Defender Troy Archibald-Henville featured for 71 minutes on his seasonal debut against Bury after recovering from a shin injury but will be assessed to check for any reaction before the trip.

Winger Danny Kearns is still nursing a thigh injury, while Alex Marrow is also not expected back just yet as the Cumbrians look to rally from slipping to the foot of the Football League for the first time since April 2004.

After losing 3-0 to the Shakers, caretaker boss Paul Thirlwell commented: "If the new manager was watching, he'll already know he's getting the job for a reason. Results haven't been good enough and this game showed why. The vulnerability when we go a goal down is what keeps costing us."
