SNUB: Xavi turned down the chance to play for Manchester United
Barcelona superstar Xavi turned down the chance to play at Manchester United this summer.
That's according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, who claim that United were keen to sign the 34-year-old this summer.
Mundo Deportivo claim that new Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal was eager to sign the Barca star, who he coached during his three year spell as manager at the Nou Camp.
But Xavi, turned down the chance of a move to Old Trafford, and opted to spend one more season with his boyhood team.
That prompted van Gaal to make a move for Atletic Bilbao star Ander Herrera - who the Red Devils signed for £30m in July.
Xavi's former manager Pep Guardiola also tried to sign the midfield maestro this summer.
But the Bayern Munich boss failed to lure his former player to the Allianz Arena.
Despite agreeing to stay at Barcelona for another season, Xavi's future at the Nou Camp is still in doubt.
Earlier this summer the Spanish midfielder agreed a deal to join Qatari side Al Arabi, but decided to spend another season in Catalunya after new Barca boss Luis Enrique convinced him to stay at the Nou Camp.
