Strootman to Man United: Update on potential January move

We have not even seen the Premier League new boys in action for their clubs yet following the summer transfer window, but attention has already turned to winter.

Man United manager Louis van Gaal is a known admirer of Roma and Netherlands midfielder Kevin Strootman and has been linked with a move for his countryman in January.

Here, talkSPORT looks at the latest stories from around Europe.

Strootman to engineer Old Trafford transfer?

On Friday, Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan told talkSPORT that had Strootman been fit, Van Gaal would have signed him already. He is convinced the midfielder will move to Old Trafford in January, though and the player could be trying to engineer this by switching agents. Strootman is now represented by the same company as Man United striker Robin van Persie.

PSG to scupper deal

According to the Express, French champions PSG are willing to offer Roma Adrien Rabiot plus cash for Strootman. Chelsea and Arsenal transfer target Rabiot is in the final year of his contract, so PSG will be forced to do business in January to avoid losing him for free. The paper also suggest Van Gaal will need to let one of his players leave in order to appeal to Roma.

Adidas deal means the large fee is no problem

Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport point out the club's deal with kit manufacturer Adidas, which will come into effect next season and last for 10 years has made them a super power in the transfer market. The £750m deal will help them continue to spend in January and the rumoured £24m fee will not be a problem for United.

Man United fans, would Strootman be a good signing? Is there still work to do on this Man United squad? Comment below...
