Inter Milan vs Chievo preview - Corini expecting Inter response

Posted Sunday, January 12, 2014 by PA

Chievo coach Eugenio Corini expects Inter Milan to go all out for a win when the two sides meet at the San Siro on Monday evening.

Inter are eager to make amends for Thursday's 1-0 defeat at Udinese that saw them ousted from the Coppa Italia.

That result followed their 1-0 reverse at Lazio that dropped Inter to sixth place in Serie A, eight points behind Napoli, who are third and hold the last Champions League qualifying spot.

Corini is expecting a response.

"It will not be an easy game," he said. "They will be determined to return to winning ways and we can expect an Inter backlash.

"They are a strong side, that must be respected and feared. However, my team is capable of hurting any side, including Inter."

Inter coach Walter Mazzarri could not hide his disappointment after the loss in Udine.

For the second time in three games, Inter failed to find the back of the net.

"We expected to go through and we deserved to progress considering our performance on the pitch," he said.

"Now we must focus on Serie A and try to finish as high as possible in the standings.

"At times when you are going through a process of growth and when you try to do too many things, you end up losing your way.

"We must get back on the right path, starting on Monday."

Mazzarri is unlikely to hand Diego Milito a start despite the Argentinian striker having returned to play after a three-month injury absence against Lazio.

Rodrigo Palacio will lead Inter's attack.

Rivals Chievo also bowed out of the Coppa Italia with a 2-0 defeat at Napoli in the last 16 of the competition.

That followed their goalless draw against Cagliari and extended their winless run to four matches.

Chievo are 16th in the standings, just two points clear of the drop zone. The hosts will be without midfielder Fredy Guarin, who is suspended.

Chievo travel to Milan without midfielder Luca Rigoni, who must serve a one-match ban.
