Modric in the driving seat

Modric has started pulling the strings for Ancelotti's new Real Madrid side. Carletto has put him in the driving seat and the Croat couldn't be responding any better. The footballing philosophy that the Italian has imposed fits perfectly with Modric's style of play, and this can be seen clearly from how comfortable he looks out on the pitch.

During the closing stages of last season he was already showing glimpses of what he's capable of. He's fast, with great vision and a powerful shot from the edge of the box. It shouldn't be forgotten that he didn't manage to make the preseason for the last campaign due to extra tough negotiations between Real and Tottenham, which meant he took a long time to adapt to his new team.

This season, however, has been completely different. From the very start of the preseason, the Croat has been involved with the rest of the squad, and this can be seen in how he's performing. Modric has been a key player for Ancelotti, who already wanted to sign him for PSG last season.

The only doubt the Italian has is who'll partner him in midfield, with Khedira and Casemiro currently competing for the slot alongside him. For the moment, it looks like the German will be selected over the Brazilian.

The former Tottenham player's dedication has calmed nerves after the difficult times that Illaramendi has been going through. Real doesn't need to rush the youngster back now, because Modric is inspiring so much confidence with his hand on the wheel.
