CRIS MY HEART ... Ronaldo shown love by Ancelotti

CARLO ANCELOTTI will fight tooth and nail to keep Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid and stave off Manchester United.

The former Chelsea, Milan and PSG boss took charge of the Spanish giants and likened Ronaldo to the all-time greats he has managed in his illustrious career.

There has been intense speculation regarding Ronaldo’s future ever since SunSport revealed the winger was pining for a return to Old Trafford last December.

Despite Real president Florentino Perez insisting Ronaldo will sign a new deal, reports in Spain claimed the Portugal ace is due to meet United directors to discuss a possible switch this week.

But speaking at his unveiling as the new Bernabeu boss Ancelotti was adamant that Ronaldo is very much central in his plans to win Madrid’s 10th Champions League.

The Italian boss said: “My opinion is easy. Ronaldo’s a fantastic, marvellous player.

“It’s an honour to coach a player like Ronaldo like it was to coach Zidane.

“Ronaldo was not on the list of players like Brazilian Ronaldo, Zidane and Ronaldinho that I coached.

“He will be on the list of players I coached now and I am so happy for that.”

Ancelotti has the final say on whether Madrid will cough up £80m for Tottenham’s Gareth Bale.

He has to decide whether to allow Gonzalo Higuain to join Arsenal in a £20m deal.

Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney and Napoli’s Edinson Cavani top the list of other targets.

Asked about Bale he added: “We’ve not spoken of signings because today is the first day I am here.

“I cannot give any information on the players that might come in or those who will leave.

“The squad is very good. In the next few days we will talk with the club about what we need.”

Former Juventus and Real superstar Zidane will sit alongside Ancelotti on the bench.

Ancelotti added: “Zidane will sit on the bench. The only problem is he cannot play.”
