Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted Manchester City's new-found wealth and emergence as title contenders has elevated tomorrow's derby to a new level.
City spent around £130million last summer in a bid to win the Premier League title this season and are currently just five points behind leaders Chelsea going into the derby at Eastlands.
And United boss Fergie, who delighted in mocking City when they were first taken over by Sheikh Mansour two years ago, conceded the owner's £20billion personal fortune can turn them into title winners.
"It [City's good start to the season] does put an edge on the game", said Fergie. "I don't believe there's any question about that.
"We know the kind of money they're spending. They've bought another five or six players in the summer and they'll keep doing that until they win something.
"You know that's going to be the way it is and you have to deal with it as it comes along.
"They're up there [challenging for the title], and you can't wait until tomorrow when there's something there today. I'm sure they're thinking that way themselves."
