Sevilla begins Copa del Rey defense with big win

MADRID (AP)—Alvaro Negredo scored twice as Sevilla began its Copa del Rey defense with a 4-0 first-leg victory at Real Irun on Wednesday.

Negredo showed great control to slot the first home just before halftime.

Yuri Bercheche was red carded for blocking Negredo’s chip in the 50th minute and, although Negredo missed the penalty, he volleyed Jose Carlos Fernandez’s free kick home in the 69th. Alfaro Alvarez and Fernandez added the other goals.

Aritz Aduritz scored two goals as seven-time champion Valencia rolled over Logrones 3-0. Juanma Mata centered for Aduritz to tap into an open goal in the 50th before again feeding him in the 69th. Vicente Rodriguez added the third in the 80th.
