JOHANNESBURG (AP)—South Africa coach Pitso Mosimane included uncapped goalkeeper Darren Keet in a 22-man squad for the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone.
The 21-year-old Keet was selected Thursday to join regulars Steven Pienaar of Everton, captain Aaron Mokoena and new Tottenham defender Bongani Khumalo.
South Africa faces Sierra Leone in a Group G game in Freetown on Oct. 10, Mosimane’s second competitive match in charge.
The South Africans beat Niger 2-0 at home in the opening game of their qualifying campaign for the 2012 African cup in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Mosimane says “we are playing good football and that is an excellent foundation for us to tackle this difficult assignment in Sierra Leone.”
