Peterson pushes Pieters on penultimate day

  • Defending champion Thomas Pieters shot a two under par third round at the Czech Masters in Prague on Saturday (20th August), to take into the final day a two shot lead over Paul Peterson of the United States.

At the close of play in Saturday's penultimate D+D Real Czech Masters round, defending champion Thomas Pieters' 2-shot lead has come suddenly under unexpected pressure.

In the near perfect conditions in Prague, American Paul Peterson shot 31 on the front nine, making a total of 8 birdies to card a round of 64 - that's 8 under - and equal the course record.

Still 2 off the lead at 10 under for the week, the left hander stands alone in second place.

Denmark's Jeff Winther started the day alongside defending champion Thomas Pieters at the top of the leaderboard at ten under par.

Birdies at the first and fourth took him to 12 under, but Winther struggled after that and could only return a one over par round of 73.

That dropped him into a two-way tie for third place with England's Robert Rock, who had seven birdies in his round of 65.

Leader Pieters' own round started with four birdies and a four shot lead after the first 10, but he bogeyed the next two and finished 2 under for the day.

The Belgian will take a two shot lead into Sunday's conclusion. But could Peterson continue his tear the final round is shaping up a classic.
