Nadal crushed in Cincinnati

Saturday, August 20 2016 by SNTV
  • There were third round defeats for both Rafa Nadal and Stan Wawrinka at the Cincinnati Open in Ohio on Thursday (18th August).

Stan Wawrinka must be getting sick of the sight of Grigor Dimitrov.

The Bulgarian dumped the world number four out of the Cincinnati Open on Thursday, his fourth straight win over the Swiss.

There was just a single break of serve in each set as Dimitrov ran out a 6-4, 6-4 victor.

He has now beaten Wawrinka on every surface and will play Steve Johnson in the quarter-finals after the American beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets.

Rafael Nadal also crashed out - losing to world number 49 Borna Coric.

    The Croatian 19 year-old won easily 6-1, 6-3.

Nadal, seeded third, struggled with shoulder and elbow injuries and had to call the trainer for treatment on court.

The Spaniard looked jaded throughout as Coric comfortably moved through to the quarter-finals.

It's the first time the Croatian has reached the last eight stage of a Masters tournament, and it was his first win over a top 10 opponent.
