Peaty: " I love competing and racing"

Friday, August 19 2016 by SNTV
  • Swimmer Adam Peaty talked to SNTV on Wednesday (17th August) about winning gold in the 100-meter breaststroke in Rio de Janeiro, as well as his next goals ahead of Tokyo 2020.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Adam Peaty, 100-meter breaststroke gold medallist:

"I think it was a combination of things, I love competing and I love racing, and I love representing my country, so I think that was very important for me to keep moving on and keep training hard and see where it goes. There was no pressure on me, we just took each season as it came and kept improving. I am quite lucky to be standing here, an Olympic champion, world record holder. It's all about enjoying this now, relaxing and then moving on for next year."

(On his future plans heading to Tokyo 2020)

"I'll add another 200m to my event schedule, I think that could be a very good move for me, and then obviously, keep doing the World Championships, the 50m, the 4x100 mixed. That's why I might do better at the World Championships, there are more events for me."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Adam Peaty, 100-meter breaststroke gold medallist:

"I think in the village at the moment we are in kind of a bubble. We don't really know what is going on outside, but I think once I get home, things will get pretty crazy very quickly. But we are prepared for this and as long as we keep training hard."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Adam Peaty, 100-meter breaststroke gold medallist:

    (On doping in swimming)

"It's a very simple take. We are all in for the sport, and we are all in for the medals and I think that those countries that allow the swimmers to compete on drugs, they still get the benefits of those drugs, and it's not fair on any country. Even if Great Britain had some people in their team on drugs, we wouldn't even take a second chance. That's how we roll. We are all about giving everyone a fair opportunity and a fair chance. Hopefully these countries realise in a few years or maybe now to not allow them to swim."
