On Monday (15th August) in Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic heptathlon gold medallist Naffssatou Thiam shared her amazement at her win.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Naffssatou Thiam, Olympic heptathlon gold medallist:

'As I said, I wasn't coming (here) for a medal so I wasn't even looking other girls, I was just trying to focus on me... and event after event was going so great. After the long jump I thought a medal was possible but not the gold because Jessica (Ennis-Hill) was so close and she's a good 800 (metres) runner and I'm not. But after the javelin throw, it was really good, I was surprised of that, everything was possible. I just had to give my best on the 800 (metres), and I thought "yeah, just do everything you can so you can leave and be proud of yourself, even if you're not first."

'I mean, on the podium it was really an amazing time, yeah just with the national anthem and the Belgian flag... I never imagined I could be there, so I just tried to enjoy the moment. But even now when people tell me "You're an Olympic champion," I'm still like, "What? That's amazing!"'
