Boos for 'cheat' Gatlin justified - Redgrave

Tuesday, August 16 2016 by SNTV
  • Five-time Olympic rowing gold medallist Sir Steve Redgrave reacted on Monday (15th August) to the crowd in the Olympic stadium booing American sprinter, Justin Gatlin.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Sir Steven Redgrave (on thoughts regarding doping punishments):

"I think it was really, really, good yesterday. I was at the athletics last night (14th August) at the men's 100 metres and (Justin) Gatlin came in and there were boos. When he got on to the start line and introduced there were boos - that is the public, as well as athletes, who are saying 'this is not good enough, we are not happy with what's happening and the way that people are cheating and then being let back into the sports, and then cheating again and being let back in the sports.' There has to be stronger sanctions, there has to be a nuclear deterrent of some sort. I think that nuclear deterrent should be life ban."
