  • Puerto Rico's Monica Puig talked on Sunday (14th August) about her victory in the Olympic singles' tennis tournament, the first ever gold medal for her country.

    "I think it finally started to sink in today, I am so proud of everything I have accomplished during these Olympic Games."

    "The pressure wasn't off, but I really had a great time on the court. I knew that this was a match that I needed to remember and I definitely made it one to remember."

    "I just believed in myself and in what I could do, anything was possible and I just had to stay with her during the whole match and just be as consistent as possible."

    "It was exhausting, and all the athletes from Puerto Rico were waiting for me, with a surprise party in the room, they had balloons everywhere, they had cake, they had everything. It was a huge celebration."

    "I definitely hope so, this has just been the most amazing couple of days in my life and I'm really excited to see what else is in store for me."
