Kyrgios through to Atlanta last four

  • Nick Kyrgios beat Fernando Verdasco 6-4,6-7(5-7), 6-3 in the quarter-finals of the Atlanta Open in the United States on Friday (5th August).

    Australia's Nick Kyrgios reached his fifth ATP semi-final of the season after beating Spain's Fernando Verdasco in three sets.

    It took the number two seed 1 hour and 54 minutes to seal the victory.

    It didn't take long for the Australian to break, Verdasco hit wide to give Kyrgios the advantage in game three.

    The first set was soon wrapped up and Kyrgios took his first set point to win the opener 6-4.

    Verdasco came fighting back though and took the second set in a tie-break to level the match.

    The Australian though, who managed to fire 18 aces and converted fifty per cent of his break point chances in the match sealed the match with a strong serve to take the third set 6-3.

    Kyrgios will now face Japan's unseeded Nishioka in the semi -finals on Saturday (6th August).
