  • Preview of US Olympic track athlete English Gardner as she looks ahead to Rio Games.

SOUNDBITE (English) English Gardner, US Olympic 100m sprinter: (On how she felt when she did not qualify for 2012 London Olympics):

"I cried for days and was super emotional about it. I remember telling my Dad that sitting in the car looking at him with eyes full of tears like, 'It is going to be a lifetime before I get this opportunity again.' And then, we're here and it is right around the corner and I have nothing but redemption on my heart and I definitely am excited to get out there and actually prove that I belong."

SOUNDBITE (English) English Gardner, US Olympic 100m Sprinter (On if she gets nervous seeing the other US Olympic track athletes):

"I am no longer looking over to my left seeing Allyson (Felix) and freaking out. Saying, 'Oh my gosh that is Allyson Felix.' It's: 'Hi, nice to meet you, how are you doing?' And, we have business to take care of. So I am a lot more mature about it. I am not as star struck now so to speak. I am more focused and I don't feel like I am a fan on that line. I feel like I am a fierce competitor. So it is just a different mindset that I have now."

SOUNDBITE (English) English Gardner, US Olympic 100m Sprinter (On if she is prepared for what the Olympics would bring):

"To be able to take back two medals from the World Championships; to go there, compete and bring back hardware is what made me believe I am ready to take on this next big step. And so, being able to run in front of crowds louder than I've ever heard, to be able to see stadiums bigger than I've ever been in, ran in. It is just amazing. So it definitely prepared me for this upcoming Olympic Games and I am just so excited."
