Canadian Eugenie Bouchard beat Lucie Safarova of the Czech Repubic 6-3, 3-6, 7(3)-6 and Simona Halep is moving on to the third round after a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Daria Gavrilova

Sara Errani put a dampener on Canadian hopes as she knocked out Aleksandra Wozniak in straight sets in the first round of the WTA Rogers Cup in Montreal .

The Italian took just over two hours to secure a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win, with the match being decided in a tie-break.

Canadian Eugenie Bouchard provided home fans with the win they wanted as she beat Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in three sets.

In a match lasting two hours and 13 minutes, Bouchard won 6-3 3-6 7-6.

The No. 5 seed, Simona Halep made quick work of Daria Gavrilova, in a straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 victory.

Halep did not face a break point in the first set, and toppled Gavrilova in 86 minutes.
