  • Sara Errani of Italy beat Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak in straights sets to reach the second round of the WTA Rogers Cup in Montreal. Canadian Eugenie Bouchard beat Lucie Safarova of the Czech Repubic 6-3, 3-6, 7(3)-6 and Simona Halep is moving on to the third round after a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Daria Gavrilova

    Sara Errani put a dampener on Canadian hopes as she knocked out Aleksandra Wozniak in straight sets in the first round of the WTA Rogers Cup in Montreal .

    The Italian took just over two hours to secure a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win, with the match being decided in a tie-break.

    Canadian Eugenie Bouchard provided home fans with the win they wanted as she beat Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in three sets.

    In a match lasting two hours and 13 minutes, Bouchard won 6-3 3-6 7-6.

    The No. 5 seed, Simona Halep made quick work of Daria Gavrilova, in a straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 victory.

    Halep did not face a break point in the first set, and toppled Gavrilova in 86 minutes.
