  • Reaction following the second day's play in the second Test between England and Pakistan at Old Trafford in Manchester on Saturday (23rd July).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Joe Root, England vice-captain (on his innings, England's total and how the England bowlers attacked the Pakistan top order):

"Very (satisfying). Very pleasing to finally go and make one count, really. I think more than anything, I thought the way that we continued to build partnerships and stuff that we always talk about as a group of players. Guys came in and we continued to take the game away from Pakistan, which is exactly what we needed to do. It could have been very easy for us to sort of lose a couple of wickets and let them back into the game, but I thought Chris (Woakes) played outstandingly well this morning and then the guys that came in after that continued that and managed to get us up to a very good total and the boys with the ball tonight were outstanding. Jimmy (Anderson) and Broady (Stuart Broad) set the tone extremely well, bowled (in) some really good areas, didn't give them (Pakistan) anything and then Chris (Woakes) and Stokesey (Ben Stokes) backed them up perfectly and managed to take four wickets, so we've got a really good opportunity tomorrow when we come back, to continue applying pressure to them and hopefully take some more wickets in that session."
