Farbrace defends tactical decisions

Tuesday, July 26 2016 by SNTV
  • Reaction from England assistant coach Paul Farbrace after a weather-interrupted third day's play in the second Test between England and Pakistan at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday (24th July).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Paul Farbrace, England assistant coach:
(on the decision not to enforce the follow-on)
"Well, it's not for me to talk about the opposition in terms of their thoughts, but as I've just said downstairs, we wanted to bat while the wicket was still good, we thought it was an exceptional effort to bowl them out in the first innings, the pitch is still very good and we don't want to put ourselves under any pressure whatsoever by having to chase a score on a pitch that will deteriorate over the next two days. So that was our thinking."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Paul Farbrace, England assistant coach:
(on why Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad didn't bowl after lunch)
"Well, the plan, very simply, was that we were hoping to bowl them out a lot quicker and therefore those two would have been fresh to have taken the new ball when we enforced the follow-on and the way that it went, obviously the decision was taken to bat again and that was the simple reason that they didn't bowl."
