  • Switzerland men's lightweight four, who are coached by New Zealander Ian Wright, seek to end a 20-year wait for a rowing gold at this summers Olympics in Rio de Janeiro

SOUNDBITE: (English) Ian Wright, Swiss head rowing coach and Olympic bronze medalist: (on chances of gold medal success)
"Well there is 13 qualified boats. You would think that there's probably five boats who could win. I think, five boats. So the main rivals would be New Zealand obviously, they are the guys who have won the last two World Cup's. Denmark, and also France would be the other one. But you never know, somebody comes out of nowhere. I mean it's been a big gap between the last World Cup and the Olympics, five, six weeks, anything can happen."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Ian Wright, Swiss head rowing coach and Olympic bronze medalist:
"So, you know, everybody asks the question 'are you gonna win?'. We always say 'of course yes, we're trying to win', but I mean rowing is an outdoor sport, anything can happen. Rio is a course nobody knows a lot about with the wind. We rowed here on Sarnen (Lake) on some flat water, but we also rowed some Rio-type conditions with the side winds and we're just leaving now stone unturned with a preparation that has been good. We've went to New Zealand, which was really nice, just for a change of scenery. You could see, you have seen it, they're very focused on what they do. It is a job, an unpaid job, but they are all smart guys as well, which really helps. And we're coming down to the pointy end, I think we're getting ready to go."
