Tanak extends lead at Rally Poland

Saturday, July 02 2016 by SNTV
  • Ott Tanak extended his lead at the top of the leaderboard on Saturday following the morning session of round seven of the FIA World Rally Championship.

Day three of Rally Poland and there is still all to play for.

Overnight leader Ott Tanak was off to a flyer on Saturday taking full advantage of his lower road position and cleaner road surface.

The Estonian had won all three stages so far and continued his excellent form as he extended his lead to 18 seconds.

Volkswagen's Andreas Mikkelsen pushed Tanak hard in his attempt to keep in touch with the leader.

It was a case of damage limitation for the Norwegian who will try and claw back some time on the second pass later on Saturday.

Hayden Paddon will similarly hope to reduce Tanak's advantage on the second run. The Kiwi will need to be careful in his decision-making having retired early in both his previous rallies.

World champion Sebastien Ogier had a morning to forget running first on the road, which proved a disadvantage.

The Frenchman dropped out of the lead fight and down to sixth after stage 13.
