  • Canada beat Venezuela 3-0 while France beat Australia 3-1 on Wednesday (1st June) in the Volleyball FIVB men's Olympic qualifiers.

As Poland beat China 3-2 and Iran edged Japan.

The day started with Canada looking to build on their win over Australia on Tuesday (31 May) when they faced Venezuela in Tokyo a day later.

Venezuela, who've yet to win in their three matches thus far, tried to take the third set but a wayward return meant Canada winning 27-25.

That secured the Canadians a new record - their biggest qualifying win and they remain in the hunt for a place in Rio de Janeiro.

Meanwhile, European heavyweights France were looking for their third win in qualification when they took on Australia.

France would go into a 2-love lead before finishing off 3-1.

France not caving in and they eventually took the final set 44-42 to beat the Australians.

Game of the day saw top of the pool Poland up against China. A win for either would see them top of the pool. The Chinese ran into a 2 game lead, yet the Poles rallied and recorded a dramatic 3-2 win.

Poland's Bartosz Kurek notched 22 points, including 19 spikes.

Yet with Iran beating hosts Japan in the late game, Poland will likely have to wait at least another round robin in order to guarantee their place at this summer's Rio Olympics.
