  • Boxing hero Manny Pacquiao said on Thursday (19th May) he would ask the Filipino public if he could fight in the Rio Olympics, after being elected to the Philippines Senate.

    Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has won a seat in the Philippine senate it was announced on Thursday (19th May).

    The 37-year-old Filipino slugger gained more than 16 million votes to come seventh place among 12 winning senators elected.

    Pacquiao is no stranger to politics having served two terms in the Philippine House of Representatives as a congressman.

    However, he had the worst attendance record of any member of congress due to his boxing commitments.

    He had pledged to become a full-time politician, although there are rumours he could take part in the Rio Olympics this summer, should Boxing's governing body allow professional’s to take part.

    Pacquiao has said he will let the Filipino people decide his fate, should professionals be allowed to compete in the Olympics.

    Who knows, it could be president Pacquiao in a few years!
