Australia aiming for Olympic Rugby Sevens Gold

Wednesday, April 13 2016 by SNTV
  • Australian Rugby Sevens squad players talk about their quest for gold come Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Frank Winterstein, Australia (on their preparations for Rio Olympics):

"We are dreaming of a big prize and that's gold medal. That's something we have been working on for the last ten or so weeks, probably longer than that. We are breaking every week down, week by week, leading into Rio and that's definitely the forefront of everyone involved in Australian Sevens. Obviously, we got to make the squad first, only x amount of players can go to the tour to Rio. So it creates an atmosphere like no other, everyone battling for positions, everyone is battling for making the tour squads, so obviously you can play on the world series, to impress the coach, every session counts, you know this weekend will definitely count for me personally and for the team."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Frank Winterstein, Australia, (on what it would mean for him to win a medal in Rio)

"24 months ago I was still playing Rugby League and here I'm playing Rugby Union, now to play in Australian 7s side, to even think about going to Rio, to even think about winning a medal, is especially something that I will never forget for rest of the days. I mean I'd be definitely proud to bring something home, obviously show my son and keep within the family forever."
