  • South Africa's Gavin Lerena beat Ryan Moore to victory in the Longines International Jockeys' Championship at Happy Valley in Hong Kong.

South African champion jockey Gavin Lerena won the last two races at Happy Valley in Hong Kong to take the International Jockeys' Championship.

British champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa took the opener here though on board Happy Spirit, holding off Ryan Moore's late charge on Go Getter.

Another length and he might just have got there.

Now if you thought that was close how about this, Moore this time on Happy And Healthy neck and neck with Japanese jockey Keita Tosaki who was riding True Comment. Indeed this was a dead heat.

Lerena had finished down the field in the opening two races but that all changed in race three when he and Mr Right held off the fast-finishing St Yazin ridden by Frenchman Maxime Guyon.

Lerena beat Moore to overall victory when he took the last on board Superoi. Lucky number eight coming in again, to the delight of the South African.
