The prosecutor overseeing the sexual assault investigation of Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane says the accuser's mother lied about finding an evidence bag in her doorway.

SOUNDBITE (English) Frank Sedita, Erie County District Attorney, reading the claims made by Thomas Eoannou:

"'A rape kit evidence bag was delivered to the home of my client's mother.' Displaying a clear plastic bag containing a brown paper bag - it's right there with evidence gloves on top of it - he stated the following, 'We know this to be the evidence bag that once contained the rape kit in evidence. It is authentic. It is the rape kit evidence bag.' It's not."

SOUNDBITE (English) Frank Sedita, Erie County District Attorney:

"A rape kit is a box. This is a rape kit. It is a box. As you can plainly see, it is not a bag. Nor does it require a bag. It is a sealed box to start, the materials - the swabs and so forth - are in the box. Once the materials are taken they are then put back into the box. The same nurse completes the initialling process, gives it to the police agency detectives, the police agency detectives take it to the lab."

"The scope of this investigation was to see whether or not there was evidence tampering. There was not evidence tampering. That's the purpose of this press conference, that was the purpose of this investigation. We believe that a person - the complainant's mother - is engaged in an elaborate hoax."
