China edge Thailand in thriller

    China beat Thailand 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 27-25) in Pool H of the FIVB World Grand Prix in Hong Kong on Thursday.

    China took on Thailand in the FIVB World Grand Prix in Hong Kong on Thursday.

    They went into the match as the favourites and took control of the opening set.

    Powerful Chinese spikes and numerous errors from Thailand saw China take an early lead.

    They were able to maintain that advantage to clinch the set, 25-18.

    Thailand responded well by taking a 4-1 lead early on in the second set.

    However, at 13-11 in Thailand's favour, some incredible serving from Zhu Ting and Xinyue Yuan's towering block gave China 11 points in a row.4
    China went on to win the set, 25-14.

    The third set proved to be the closest - Thailand refusing to allow China to build a lead.

    Ting and Xinyue Yuan combined fiercely to tilt the balance of the match again.

    Their telling attacks helped China widen the gap to four points at 21-17.

    Thailand didn't relent, however, tying the score at 23-all.

    A thrilling finish saw Xinyue Yuan and Changning Zhang score with a block to hand China a 27-25 victory.
