Reaction after the MLB All-Star Game

  • Intro:

Reaction after the American League beat the National League 6-3 in the 86th Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio on Tuesday (14 July).

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English): Bruce Bochy, National League (NL) Manager:

(On impact of Mike Trout's home run).

"Ah, that's big. I mean, it gets him going. You always like the leadoff homer to get you on the board early. I mean (Mike) Trout, I mean, tremendous player, great player. It looked like a decent pitch too and it's not a real big ballpark here. So he got enough of it to get it out but I'm sure it got them going, but we came back and tied it on the blooper and, so we were doing okay at that point."

SOUNDBITE (English): Ned Yost, American League (AL) Manager:

    (On his experience managing game).

"It was a lot of fun. I think we've been really working on our game plan for the last week. We tried to punch holes in it every which way we could and it we worked it to perfection. We wanted to put power at the top of the line-up and hopefully get a quick strike. Mike Trout took care of that for us. We wanted to try to have a lead by the fifth inning so we could get our real power arm relievers in that game to hold them down, and that worked great. We wanted to get (Dallas) Keuchel through two innings and he pitched great and Chris Archer, of course he was fantastic and so was King Felix (Hernandez) and David Price. So it just, I mean the plan went perfectly. You sit there and you look at the plan, you think it's a good plan, but the players have to go out and execute it and they did to a tee."

SOUNDBITE (English): Mike Trout, All-Star Game Most Valuable Player (MVP):

(On repeating as All-Star Game MVP).

"Yeah, no, it means a lot. Obviously we came out with a 'W' (win), that's the biggest thing. I just, when I go out there, I play my hardest every day. And it doesn't matter what the score is. When I'm in there I'm playing nine innings hard and it's just an incredible honour to be a part of the All-Star game and to win the MVP (Most Valuable Player) twice. It's something special for sure."
