Severin Freund soars to ski jumping victory

    Severin Freund wins in Willingen, Germany. Norwegian Rune Velta finished second & claimed his first podium of the season.

    The ski jumping World Cup continued in Willingen, Germany, on Sunday.

    Slovenia won the team event, with the Germans taking second on Friday.

    Into the individual discipline, Czech Roman Koudelka threw himself into an early second round lead, with a total of 252.4 points.

    Rune Velta was on form as he looked for his first podium finish of the season.

    The Norwegian jumping for a total of 269.3 points, to move into the lead with just a few competitors still to jump.

    One of those was local favourite, Severin Freund.

    The German had two victories this season, yet one on home soil would be the sweetest of them all.

    Freund landed a jump of 146m on his second, resulting in first place and 270.3 World Cup points.

    The German now moves up to fourth in the rankings, with Peter Prevc leading overall after a fourth place finish here in Willingen.
