Japan's Noriaki Kasai kept the pressure on Simon Ammann in the ski jumping World Cup standings by drawing level with the Swiss to share the top step of the podium in Ruka, Finland on Saturday (29 November).

Simon Ammann looked to have sealed victory at the ski jumping World Cup in Finland only for title rival Kasai Noriaki to draw level with him on Saturday's final run to share the spoils.

Slovenia's Anze Lanisek crashed out as the first person down on the second run after his left ski appeared to spontaneously detach in mid-air.

Despite the accident's apparent severity, thankfully, Lanisek waved to the crowd as he was stretchered away.

Severin Freund, starting 24th, took the lead with a combined total of 268.7 metres, but Ammann - top of the World Cup standings - immediately surpassed him on the leaderboard with a total of 272.2 metres.

However, Ammann's victory was eventually shared as Noriaki Kasai converted his run to match Ammann's combined distance.

Kasai's result meant that Freund was, in turn, relegated to third place.

Nevertheless, Ammann remains top of the standings with 236 points with Kasai close behind on 200.
