Newly-elected ICC chairman Narayanaswami Srinivasan has spoken about his desire to spread cricket to all corners of the globe and to continue the fight against corruption in the sport.

SOUNDBITE (English): Narayanaswami Srinivasan, Chairman, International Cricket Council (ICC):

"At the outset, I would like to say how thrilled I am, and how humbled by this opportunity to provide leadership to the ICC, particularly at this time when this structure of the ICC has been changed, to provide a more financially stable financial position to full members, associates and affiliates, to introduce meritocracy into the game. And also take steps to take cricket to all parts of the world. There are, I think, a substantial number of associates and affiliates and the ICC is going to place a lot of emphasis on the development of cricket in different parts of the world. I believe that some of the criticism is not fair to me and is not well-founded. Beyond that, all I can say is that over a long period of time, I have been involved with cricket and its administration. And one must judge me by results. It is the first day and I have just been elected. And I think one must wait and see as to what is the effect I have on the ICC, on cricket, before you make that judgment."

"No, I think the ICC has as Chief Executive David Richardson was explaining earlier, has taken a lot of steps to root out whatever problems are snipping at world cricket today. And as a result of the efforts of the ACSU - the anti-corruption unit of the ICC - and the education programs that they have put in place around the world - I think one can say that there is a substantial improvement. And I can't accept that cricket has an image problem. You know, there may have been some instances, rare instances, few and far between. But I think almost all cricket is very fair, hard-fought."
