From rural India to MLB: Million Dollar Arm

    Indian pair Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel have recounted their pride on signing contracts to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team.

    The duo were speaking at the premiere of Million Dollar Arm, the film which tells their story.

    Script:

    A story straight out of Bollywood and into Hollywood.

    The Indian pair getting their very own motion picture to tell the story of how they came to America to play ball.

    Rinku pretty contented:

    "Thank God that I made the decision to come to America to play professional baseball. I feel really proud about what I have done. So are my mum and dad. They don't even know what baseball is like. Being in America, the experience that I got, I would never be the person I am today, if I was in India and was 40 or 50 years old."

    Snatched from rural India following their performances on a reality TV show there that saw them awarded contracts to play professional baseball in the US:

    "This is one of my dreams. I am still working towards that. I'm still with the Pirates. First of all, thanks to the Pittsburgh Pirates organisation. They are the ones that keep the Million Dollar Arm story alive otherwise there wouldn't be a Million Dollar Arm. If I stay in America, there is only one reason, because of baseball."

    The former javelin throwers entering the Million Dollar Arm in 2008, in which scouts sought to discover prospective pitchers with strong throwing arms.

    Having never seen or even heard of baseball before, Ringu took first place with Dinesh the runner-up, ahead of 37,000 others:

    "It's going to really inspire people over there. If we can do that, then they can do that. We have set a great example for them."

    Rinku still with the Pirates, while Dinesh was let go in 2010:

    "Right now I am doing my degree. I'm going to college. Bachelors of Art (BA). My subject is Hindi, English and History. And also, I am coaching there and teaching some baseball to kids. I hope I will be here (in America)."
