Top seed Lee Chong Wei was looking for his fourth straight BWF Super Series title on Sunday as he faced qualifier Simon Santoso of Indonesia in the Singapore Open men's singles final.

But from the start Santoso aimed to upset the world number one and took the first game from Lee 21-15.

And Santoso showed no signs of slowing down in the second game, winning the biggest rally of the match for a commanding 17-10 lead.

Santoso eventually closing it out to win 21-15, 21-10 to complete an improbable run from qualifier to upsetting the world number one in the final for the BWF Super Series Singapore Open men's singles title.

In an all-China women's singles final, top seed Li Xuerui lost her opening game to Wang Yihan, then at 19-19 in the second Wang was given a match point opportunity with a critical unforced error at the net.

The second-seeded Wang Yihan didn't need a second opportunity to kill off the game and won in straight games 21-11, 21-19 to defend her Singapore Open women's singles title.
