The Yonex Grand Prix badminton event in Mulheim an de Ruhr, Germany reached a climax on Sunday (2nd March), and the Scottish mixed doubles pairing of Robert Blair and Imogen Bankier were expected to win their final.

They took on Ko Sung Hyun and Kim Ha Na of South Korea, seeded three.

Blair and Bankier had already won the Swedish Masters this year, and had put out fellow Britons and top seeds Chris and Gabrielle Adcock in the semis.

The Scots took the first game by 21 points to 15 and then efficiently closed out the second to secure a 21-15, 21-18 win.

The German Open victory was the duo's sixth title win over the last twelve months.

The men's doubles final was an all-Japanese affair between top seeds Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa, and Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda, seeded eight.

Endo and Hayakawa fought back to take the second game by 21-14, but Kamura and Sonoda were not to be denied and closed out a 21-19, 14-21, 21-14 victory.

The men's final again threw the seeding system up in the air, after India's unseeded Arvind Bhat beat Danish number 12 seed Hans-Kristian Vittinghus.

It was the 34 year-old Indian's seventh career title.

Bhat also became the first player from India to win a title at the German Open.
