  • Intro:

Tomas Berdych won his first ATP tournament title since October 2012, beating Marin Cilic of Croatia 6-4, 6-2 on Sunday (16th February) in the World Tennis tournament final in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

    Script:

Tomas Berdych went into the final of the Rotterdam Open looking for his first title in 16 months.

While the Czech may have started as favourite against the World No 37 Marin Cilic, the Croatian came into this encounter having beaten Jo Wilfried Tsonga and Andy Murray in previous rounds.

Berdych broke as early as the second game and consolidated that break with a hold to take control of the first set.

The World No 7 took the opening set 6-4. His aggressive hitting from the baseline kept him in control of the rallies and his breaking of Cilic in the opening game of the second put him in charge.

The Croatian was clearly disappointed with his performance and this careless return gifted Berdych the title with a 6-4, 6-2 win and his first trophy for over a year.
